Our Stay at The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront

We decided to take a weekend getaway to one of our favorite cities that is only two hours from our home, Savannah. There are so many things to do in this small coastal city in Georgia. From it’s cobblestoned squares that have incredible restaurants to beautiful parks with huge oak trees shaded by Spanish moss, this is the perfect city for a quick getaway.

During our visit we got to stay at one of the most stylish hotels we have ever been to, The Bohemian Hotel Savannah, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. This upscale boutique hotel located right on the Savannah River is the perfect place to lay your head due to it’s proximity to everything there is to do in downtown Savannah. The entire building is full of maritime-inspired original artwork that is handpicked by the owner of these beautiful hotels, which adds to the eclectic vibe of the hotel.

Our room had absolutely everything we could have ever needed. It had a huge king bed with floor to ceiling windows that overlook either the river or downtown Savannah. The bathroom had a huge walk in shower and beautiful marble countertops. We especially loved the custom oyster shell chandelier over our bed, it was such a unique touch! It even came with a bottle of complementary champagne!

By far our favorite thing about this hotel was the rooftop bar, called Rocks on the Roof, that overlooks the Savannah River. They have an incredible tapas menu and some of the most creative and delicious cocktails we’ve ever tasted! This rooftop bar is also popular with locals and tourists alike, it’s definitely the place to be on a Friday or Saturday night! They also have a restaurant on the first floor of the hotel, Rocks on the River, with a full menu and huge wine list.

The hotel is doing an incredible job of creating a safe environment for you to escape during this time. All of the staff members are wearing masks, and all of the guests to the hotel are also required to wear masks when walking around the hotel property. There’s hand sanitizer stations all throughout the hotel, all of the tables at the restaurant are 6 feet apart, and their housekeeping crew is constantly cleaning and sanitizing everything. We felt extremely safe the entire time we were there.

Another thing that stood out to us during our stay here was the staff. They went above and beyond to accommodate us and were extremely friendly. Everyone who worked there knew our names and were very helpful and gave us recommendations on their favorite menu items and drinks. They even offered to call us cabs when we went out to explore the city.

To conclude, our stay at The Bohemian Hotel was absolutely incredible. This hotel is the perfect place to stay in Savannah due to its proximity to downtown, amazing rooms and food, and its amazing rooftop! We seriously cant recommend this hotel enough!

Our Travel Guide to Antigua

Want to visit an island where you can explore a new beach every day for an entire year??

We’re not talking about a chain of islands or even somewhere in the East Indies, we’re talking about a place just a few quick hours from the USA.

Yes, it does exist! And its name is Antigua.

Located in the northeast part of the Caribbean, Antigua is the main island of the country Antigua & Barbuda. The island itself is 108 square miles which can be easily traveled with a rental car. We absolutely loved our trip to this tiny island! We spent our time sailing, visiting many beaches, and catching the most epic sunsets we have ever seen!

What To Do

Visit As Many Beaches As Possible

With over 365 beaches, you really can’t go wrong! During our trip, we visited Half Moon Bay, Ffryes Beach, Galleon Beach, Darkwood Beach, and Long Bay Beach. Half Moon Bay probably had some of the most incredible turquoise water we have ever seen! We highly recommend getting a rental car so you can visit as many beaches as you’d like!

Take In the Epic Views at Shirley Heights

If you want to see the most picturesque spot on the entire island, you need to plan a trip to Shirley Heights. It is a retired military lookout 500 feet above sea level offering an iconic view of the English and Falmouth Harbours.

But people don’t just flock here for the views. Every Sunday from 4 pm till 10 pm, Shirley Heights becomes a party. Think of it as a traditional block party with local food, drinks, music, dancing, friends, and fun. In case you can’t make it on a Sunday, there’s also a smaller version of this on Thursdays at Reggae Heights. These events are perfect for those interested in experiencing Antiguan culture, sampling local cuisine, and making lasting memories.

Catch a Sunset at Sheer Rocks

Perched atop a rocky cliff on the west coast of Antigua, Sheer Rocks is a restaurant located on the grounds of Cocobay Resort. They have multiple plunge pools and day beds that you can rent while eating their amazing tapas or enjoying one of their delicious cocktails. We recommend calling ahead and reserving a plunge pool in the afternoon so you can watch the incredible sunsets! We enjoyed our visit here so much that we came back for a second time!

Sail the Coast of Antigua

This was probably our favorite experience during our trip to Antigua. We booked a private charter with Gadaboat Sailing and they took us on a four hour cruise aboard their 52′ yacht around the Antigua coast. We have never seen so many different shades of blue! Appetizers and alcoholic beverages were also provided during the trip. Stacey and her crew were the most incredible hosts!

Visit Nelson’s Dockyard

Remnants of British colonialism can be found all around Antigua from the many abandoned sugar mills to the streets of St. John. The most famous is Nelson’s Dockyard. Positioned on the English Harbour and next to Fort Berkeley, Nelson’s Dockyard became the center for the Royal Navy in Antigua, providing ship maintenance or repair and officer quarters.

Today, Nelson’s Dockyard is a Unesco World Heritage Site, with a museum, bars, and restaurants. Unfortunately most of the restaurants and bars were closed when we visited due to COVID, but we heard that it is definitely the place to visit, especially on Sundays.

Where To Stay

For the first half of our trip, we stayed at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay. This adults-only all-inclusive hotel is the sister property of Nonsuch Bay Resort. Since this is an adults-only property, it is much quieter here, lending it as the perfect place for a romantic getaway with your loved one. Plus it is the only resort on the island where every unit includes a private plunge pool that has incredible views of the bay!

For the second half of our trip to Antigua, we had the pleasure of staying at The Great House Antigua. From the moment we arrived, we knew immediately that this charming hotel was the perfect way to end our trip. We felt like we had stepped back in time with it’s colonial charm and how rich it is in history, but it still had all of the luxuries of a modern boutique hotel.

How to Find Cheap Flights

The hardest thing to justify, when it comes to travel, is the cost of the flight. It’s almost always the most expensive part of travel and the biggest roadblock to you visiting your top bucket list destinations. There’s no secret website that gives you 99% off any flight you want, but there is a combination of things that you can do to ensure that you’re finding the best deal currently available.  We’ve learned so much and want to share all our tips and tricks for finding cheap flights to anywhere right here. There’s no better time to be booking flights, fuel prices have been relatively low for a few years and airlines are desperate to attract passengers due to the pandemic.

Knowing When It Is the Cheapest Month to Book a Flight

There’s not one individual month that is the cheapest to actually purchase a flight, but there are two things to consider to always get a better price. 1. How far in advance are you booking the flight? 2. What season is your trip happening? Let’s start with how far out you should be booking. If I go search for a flight for next year at this same time, right now, all I’m going to see is the highest possible prices because the airlines assumes that they have plenty of time to fill all of their seats. The same goes for the opposite! If I look for a flight that leaves in 3 hours, they’re going to assume that I don’t have any flexibility and the price will be a high one.

So what’s the sweet spot? Well, Skyscanner compiled the data on their flight search engine and found that to find the cheapest domestic flights you should book three weeks in advance for domestic flights and two weeks in advance for international flights. In terms of which actual month is the best to purchase your flight, you should be buying flights in September for domestic and August for international flights. This is based on historical data and averages, but it is always subject to change as travel culture changes!

Knowing When It Is the Cheapest Day to Book a Flight

Domestically, you want to book you flights on Saturdays, Tuesdays, or Sundays, in that order. Internationally it is best to book your flights on Saturday, Sunday, or even Friday. I’ve seen this data change over the years as the best days to book used to be Wednesdays and Tuesdays, and the worst used to be on the weekends. We’ll do our best to keep you updated here on our website. Make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter so you don’t miss any future updates!

Which Season or Month Should You Be Traveling in to Get the Cheapest Flights?

Now with the same data that Skyscanner compiled, they found that the cheapest months domestically are January, September, and October and internationally the cheapest month is March. Anecdotally, we prefer traveling during the shoulder seasons, meaning late spring and early fall or their summer counterparts. It is a time of year where you get some of the benefits of summer weather without as many tourists, and the lack of other travelers leads to cheaper flights, hotel rooms, activities, etc.

Keep in mind that these are all averages and definitely vary per destination, but if you don’t want to do all the due diligence and nitty gritty research on each potential trip, these averages are a good place to start! In the flight search engines section I’ll show you how to ensure you’re getting the cheapest flight for the destination you’ve chosen.

Cheaper Destinations

Are some destinations cheaper than others? Absolutely! You will never find a flight to the Maldives cheaper than what you can find to Amsterdam. After years and years of searching for cheap flights, you get a pretty good idea for the price range each destination holds, but here are some tricks to be able to estimate the price of a destination at a glance. Generally, the cities that are most expensive in terms of cost of living are the most affordable airports to fly in and out of. This is simply because of volume. The more remote an airport is, the more it costs the airline to fly in and out of there.

Distance is going to be another factor, but once you pass four hours of flight or so, it isn’t as serious of a factor anymore. For example, when picking a destination that is within two hours, you can almost find flights for between $100 and $400, but when you pass four hours or so, prices don’t usually drop below $300 or $400.

Which Budget Airlines Are Available for Your Destination

Apart from popularity and distance, the airlines that fly the routes you’re looking for will have arguably an even great impact on the price of the flight. To get the cheapest flights, you need know which airlines to look at. In the western United States you can fly Frontier or Allegiant and in the East you can fly Spirit. In Europe, there is RyanAir and Norwegian and in Eastern and Southeastern Asia you can fly China Southern or China Eastern. You can also grab a basic economy seat on a standard airline like Delta, but you want to be aware that essentially turns your experience into a budget airline experience.

No matter who you book with, you must always pay attention to what is included in the price of the flight. Most budget airlines won’t include food or drinks, checked baggage, carry-on luggage bigger than a briefcase or purse, seat selection, etc. and will have limited legroom, poor change and refund policies, and not the best customer service as a result. With that said, we fly budget airlines all the time because sometimes it is just worth it to sacrifice some comfort to save hundreds of dollars! Any of the below flight search engines will show you which budget airlines are available for your destination and will help you save money.

How To Get the Best Flight Deals

The name of the game is flexibility. If the only days of the year that you can travel are on Christmas Eve and New Years Day then you’re not going to have much luck finding cheap flights. On that same note, if there is only one destination you’re dying to go to, flights to that destination might not vary much in price throughout the year, or if they do get cheaper at some point, that may not be at the time that you’re available. So if you want the best flight deals, then be flexible with when you fly and where you fly to.

Three Days in Paradise – The Escape at Nonsuch Bay

We had the pleasure of starting our trip in Antigua with a 3 night stay at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay.

From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by all of the staff. Everyone is extremely kind, and you can tell that they actually want you to enjoy your stay at their hotel. You don’t feel like just another visitor like you sometimes do at larger hotel chains.

Each room comes with a king size bed, en suite bathroom with a separate shower and two sinks. It also has an outdoor soaking tub and day bed that overlooks your private plunge pool. All meals and alcohol are included with your stay at their onsite restaurant, The Drift Restaurant & Bar.

Everything at this hotel is geared towards romance. They offer private dinners, floating pool dining options, romantic sunset activities, and many other upgrades to make sure your stay at their hotel is absolutely perfect. One of our favorite activities was a private boat ride over to the neighboring Green Island, where a picnic on the beach was waiting for us.

Another amenity that we loved at the hotel was the pool that overlooks the bay. It is huge! Plus it’s right next to the bar so that’s an added benefit! They also have overwater lounge chairs down by the bay that are perfect to relax in.

Regarding COVID and overall sanitization, the hotel did a great job of making us feel safe the entire time. Hand sanitizer bottles were placed all throughout the property and all staff were safely protected the entire time. All wait staff and employees wore their masks and gloves when handling food and interacting with guests.

To conclude, our stay at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay was absolutely perfect. This adults-only all-inclusive hotel was so relaxing, and we loved how intimate our experience here was. They really do cater to your every need and the entire staff makes you feel at home during your stay. We seriously can’t recommend this hotel enough. If you are looking for a great place to connect with your significant other and treat them to a luxurious experience, look no further than The Escape at Nonsuch Bay.

The Great House Antigua

For the second half of our trip to Antigua, we had the pleasure of staying at The Great House Antigua. From the moment we arrived, we knew immediately that this charming hotel was the perfect way to end our trip. We felt like we had stepped back in time with it’s colonial charm and how rich it is in history, but it still had all of the luxuries of a modern boutique hotel.

The hotel is situated within a 350 year old sugar plantation, the last fully intact remaining stone plantation on the island. It has a combination of four huge suites located within the main house, and four brand new garden cottage suites surrounded by their beautiful tropical gardens. We were one of the first people to stay in their cottage suites. The room was huge!

The hotel offers many amenities that give their guests the perfect opportunity to unwind. Yoga sessions, spa treatments, guided hikes, and just spending time lounging by their huge pool are to name a few. Their spa was temporarily closed due to government COVID guidelines, but we’ve heard from others that their treatments aren’t to be missed when the spa does open back up.

Regarding COVID and overall sanitization, the hotel did a great job of making us feel safe the entire time. Hand sanitizer bottles were placed all throughout the property and all staff were safely protected the entire time. All wait staff and employees wore their masks and gloves when handling food and interacting with guests.

We loved spending our time walking around the grounds and hearing all of the birds chirping. This hotel is located away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas on Antigua, and we loved every minute of it. It was extremely peaceful just to relax on our own time.

We had the best meals during our entire time on the island at this hotel. The presiding chef made us the most incredible pan-seared snapper we have ever tasted! The on-site restaurant is now open for lunch to the public every Sunday and the guests also have access to the pool.

To conclude, our stay at The Great House Antigua was the absolutely perfect way to end our trip. This hotel was so relaxing and we enjoyed every moment here. The main housekeeper, Mara, is the sweetest lady and will take great care of you. We seriously can’t recommend this hotel enough. If you are looking for a great place to unwind in nature during your trip to Antigua, look no further than The Great House Antigua.
